This home, built in 1970 included a very small, dark and extremely outdated kitchen. As the family grows the kitchen has become a sore spot in the house, both to work in and to look at. The homeowner wanted to include more shelving, lighting, (both natural and task) while including visual appeal to their kitchen. They also desired better traffic flow, more open space, a moveable island that can be used for entertaining purposes and to make the kitchen a focal point of the house while staying within their allotted budget. Most importantly we had to do the remodel as quickly as possible so the family would not be out of a kitchen for any length of time.

We started by showing the family various designs and materials and suggested ways to make the most advantageous use of space for storage needs. We incorporated stunning hickory cabinets and crown molding and removed the existing soffits to allow for more room and to make the space appear larger. Task lighting was introduced for when natural light wasn’t available. By taking the existing layout and opening it up we created an open area that flows from the hallway right through to the family room which in turn, created a better traffic flow pattern. The island in the middle of the kitchen was custom made and included castors to allow the family to move it where needed, making this kitchen truly functional for them. In order to conceal these castors we designed custom made brackets and extensions out of hickory wood in a claw foot design- a truly unique touch. This family received a sensible, completely customized kitchen within their budget that they can enjoy for years to come.
